What and Where to eat in Puglia region
Table of Contents
TogglePuglia region is famous for it’s delicious food so it’s normal to wonder “where to eat in Puglia” when you plan your visit here, because you definitely don’t want to miss some very good spots.
Puglia is a very touristy region in the south of Italy. This was the first time for us visiting Bari, Polignano a Mare and Monopoli and we really loved every piece of it, and the food was not left behind at all. In this article I will recommend few places where to eat in Puglia that we already tried and the food was delicious.
Places to eat in Bari
Panificio Fiore
- best focaccia in Bari is found here at Panificio Fiore, you should definitely add this place to your where to eat in Puglia list. The taste of this focaccia is amazing, the dough is very soft covered with olive oil, tomato and olives. Also the edge of the focaccia was extremely delicious, being crunchy and salty.
- PS: it can be a big crowd of people when you arrive, but don’t worry, they move fast so don’t get discouraged by it.
Strada delle Orecchiette
- also called “Ears” or the Pasta Street it’s a unique street found in Bari where the Italian ladies make and sell orecchiette pasta right in front of their homes.
- some of them developed already a business from this and you can even enter in their homes and eat a freshly prepared pasta meal.
- the Italian nannies are very kind and lovely. You can buy 0.5KG of orecchiette pasta for only 2.5€
Places to eat in Polignano a Mare
PIC NIC – il bistrot di Casa Mia
This restaurant is located near the entrance to the Polignano a Mare old city center. It drew our attention because it was written on a chalkboard something about carbonara pasta and other types. Us being hungry at that moment we said, ok this is the place!
The food didn’t disappointed at all!! The best carbonara I’ve ever had was at PIC NIC, it was simply delicious! While my husband had some orecchiette with tomato sauce and meat balls, again they were fabulous !!
We really liked the food here and we recommend you should also give it a try if you are visiting Polignano a Mare.
Il Quadrifoglio
This restaurant is located on the via Roma street, which is a street full of shops, restaurants and bars. It’s actually a very nicely decorated street and during night time there are a lot of lights lightening the street.
What took our attention was that a night before eating here we saw that this restaurant was full and a big queue of people were still waiting to have dinner there. That time we knew that the next day we will go and eat there🤣.
The staff is very friendly, like everybody actually in this region of Italy and the food is delicious. Il Quadrifoglio is definitely a must try in Polignano a Mare.
We had here a Pizza, I think it was their signature one and some pasta L’assasina . The pizza was delicious , so fresh with good quality ingredients while the pasta were also very interesting as they were somehow fried in the pan and of course, they were spicy. #where to eat in Puglia
Spizzicomania
This place is also found in the via Roma street in Polignano a Mare and we only had here some cold plates. To be honest, I don’t think that you could fail with food in Italy.
At Spizzicomania we had a plate for 2 that was filled with local meat products and burrata, of course. And an extra of tomatoes bruschetta. Everything was delicious, and one thing you need to know is that in Puglia region the wine is excellent and at the very good price. For example, here a bottle of Primitivo wine, which is a very good wine, was only 15 €.
We also recommend to give this one a try, the food is very tasty.
Cafe Acquamarea
The location of this restaurant is right above the famous beach from Polignano a Mare. You can enjoy at Cafe Acquamarea a drink or a lunch with a view, whichever you prefer.
We had here a drink, a local beer and a cappuccino because we planned already to have lunch somewhere else. Overall the bar/restaurant is in a very good location and offer very nice views to the beach and the sea.
Definitely, if you are looking for a place to take a instagrammable picture, Cafe Acquamarea is the place.
Mercato Coperto Polignano a Mare
In every city we visit, we look for a central market with local products were we can taste a bit of the local culture.
In Polignano a Mare, we found the Mercato Coperto which is a small indoor and outdoor market were you find fresh fish, vegetables and fruits, local mozzarella, burrata and other type of cheese and also local olives, basically everything you need is in one place and it is called Mercato Coperto.
We went on a Saturday morning, so I can tell for sure on Saturdays the market is open. If you like this type of places, this a very good one and you shouldn’t miss it.
Best place for panini in Monopoli
If you are visiting the city of Monopoli and you are also a fan of Panini, don’t miss this place.
I’m talking about GUSTAVO, here you will find the best Focaccine (as we know it panini but in focaccia, not regular bread).
We we’re visiting Monopoli only for few hours, but let’s say GUSTAVO was one of the attractions for us. They serve it with different fillings, you choose which ever you like. We had our focaccine with Prosciutto Crudo di Parma ( the classic one) and it was delicious, I’m still thinking about it right now as I’m writing this article.
