First things first, some advices
- if you want to enjoy the beauty of this gorgeous island, rent a car!
- keep in mind that in Malta they are driving on the left-hand side of the road, like in UK.
- if you get the chance, rent a car with automatic gear there are very narrow and steep roads and for us would have been easier with an automatic gear.
- best time to visit Malta for beaches June till September
- best time to visit Malta for exploring it’s beautiful history and charm from October till May
Ghajn Tuffieha Bay – sandy beach
Also known as Riviera Beach, this beach was among our favorites because its a picturesque and relatively secluded sandy beach. It is renowned for its natural beauty, clear blue waters, and the stunning surroundings of steep cliffs and rolling countryside. Also, here you can enjoy a spectacular sunset, we stayed here to watch the sunset for 2 nights in a row. For us it’s one of the best beaches in Malta.
Useful information:
– yes, available on site for FREE, but might be full depending on the time of your arrival.
– Mġarr, Malta.
– to get to the beach, from the parking lot you have to descend a hill on a staircase of approximately 200 steps, but it’s completely worth it!
– there is a very nice beach bar & restaurant called Singita Miracle Beach , here you can have a drink, eat lunch, take a shower and even reserve a table to enjoy dinner during sunset. They also have a nice sunset ritual. The food is delicious and the prices are good. P.S.: you must try the pistachio espresso!
🏖️ – there are sunbeds and umbrellas available to rent.
🚻 – available on site.
– suitable for families with kids, the water is shallow quite far out making it a great beach for families with young kids as long as they will do the stairs.
St. Peter’s Pool – natural swimming pool
It is a natural swimming pool (rocky bay) located on the southern coast of Malta. It has crystal-clear waters and stunning rocky surroundings. Unfortunately, this gem became very popular among locals and adventurous tourists and during the peek season it is very crowded. There are small chances that you will get a place in the shadow, so take sunscreen and a hat with you.
Useful information:
– yes, available on site for 2 € and is pinned as “Parking for St. Peter’s Pool”
– near the village of Marsaxlokk, Malta
– the road leading to this natural swimming pool is quite narrow and winding. Also, once you parked your car, the road is a little rough.
– there is something there like a bar where you can buy snacks or drinks and enjoy it with a nice view over the St. Peter’s Pool (bring cash with you) . This place is located right when you exit from the parking lot and head to the beach.
🏖️ – there are NO sunbeds and/or umbrellas available to rent.
🚻 – not available on site.
– in my opinion it’s not suitable for families with kids, due to the 1. road, 2. crowds and 3. jellyfish (yes, we got bitten by a small one).
Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon in Malta is known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. Situated between the islands of Comino and Cominotto, it is accessible primarily by boat. You should know that he Blue Lagoon is a popular destination for day trips and boat tours from Malta, so there will be crowds. Tip: take the first boat taht leaves in the morning to Blue Lagoon, so you can get a sunbed and enjoy a little bit of time without crowds.
Useful information:
– accesible by boat, advice: take the first boat in the morning to avoid crowds. Price: 15€/per adult and 7€/ per child and they will take you also to the caves. Buy the tickets online for a small discount from here.
– Comino Island, Malta
– a lot of kiosks to buy snacks, food, ice-cream, drinks, their famous pineapple, etc. The food is not very tasty, but it’s the only choice, unless you want to walk till the nearest restaurant.
– there are sunbeds and umbrellas available to rent for 30€/ 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella. You need to be there very early if you want to catch some sunbeds.
-yes, but not clean.
– we had the double red flag all day, so definitely it was very crowded at shore, but there were a lot families with kids who seemed to enjoy their time there.
But overall, 100% worth it and I highly consider it one of the best beaches in Malta, although it gets very crowded during the day!
Paradise Bay – sandy beach
Paradise Bay is a sandy beach with clear blue waters, and stunning panoramic views. The water is shallow make it a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxation. We really liked this beach, i think you should not miss it.

Golden Bay is a popular sandy beach nestled along the northwestern coast of the island. The beach is a wide stretch of golden sand and clear blue waters. Here you can also find to rent skyjets, standing paddle or water bicycle. You should know that this beach is popular, and it’s crowded, due to this aspect, Golden Bay is not through our favorite beaches in Malta.
Useful information:
– yes, available on site and the guy from there will ask for a “donation” instead of a parking fee.
– west coast of Malta.
– very easy to reach from the parking lot.
– there are few options to choose from on site.

Il-kalanka Beach (Marsaxlokk) – natural swimming pool
This is an amazing natural swimming pool, not crowded, perfect for snorkeling and enjoying a bath in a sunny day. I loved it here, and to be honest, we loved Il-kalanka and preferred it over St. Peter’s Pool, but it’s a matter of taste, of course.
Useful information:
– yes, available on site for FREE
– near the village of Marsaxlokk, Malta
– few stair heading down to the natural swimming pool
– no kioks or cafe’s are there. So be sure you bring some snack and water with you!
🏖️ – there are NO sunbeds and/or umbrellas available to rent. But there is a lot of shadow near the rocks, at least in the first part of the day.
🚻 – not available on site.
– i would say, it depends. Here we also saw 2 jellyfish, but in contrast to St. Peter’s Pool it’s more quiet with a ladder to go down in the water and much more easy to access. Very nice for snorkeling.
Roman Baths Sliema – natural swimming pool
Useful information:
– you need find parking around in the city of Sliema
– Sliema, Malta
– it’s very easy to access, access is right near the road.
– you can eat in the city of Sliema, as there are plenty of of options to choose from. And also there is a restaurant right across the baths. Although, this restaurant has a nice view over the baths, I can’t recommend it, as we didn’t had a great time there – the food and the serving was low quality-.
🏖️ – there are NO sunbeds and/or umbrellas available to rent.
🚻 – available on site on the nearest restaurant.
– i think it is suitable for families with kids, as they will have so much in there. You can choose a “pool” for yourself only and enjoy your time there.
Anchor Bay ( Popeye Village )- rocky beach
Anchor Bay is particularly famous for its connection to the Popeye Village, a unique and quirky attraction that was originally built as a film set for the 1980 musical production “Popeye,” starring Robin Williams. It’s a very nice spot for a swim and a nice viewpoint to the Popeye Village. Definitely, 100% worth it in my opinion, we had a good time here.
Useful information:
– yes, available on site
– near the Popeye village , Malta
– the road it’s a path not too long not to short, easy to access, in my opinion.
– nothing on the site.
– there are NO sunbeds and/or umbrellas available to rent.
– there are 2 public toilets
– suitable for kids, if they can swim. Also very nice for snorkeling and for us was a perfect swimming spot, we loved it so much here.
