Hidden Gem : Alicante – We’ve heard about it that is a beautiful city located on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, with a lot to offer for tourists, so we’ve decided to visit it.
So whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, explore historic landmarks, or have local food and drink, Alicante has plenty to offer.
A castle on top of Mount Benacantil, which is among the top attractions in Alicante. This stunning castle dates back from 9th century and offers amazing panoramic views of the city and Mediterranean Sea. It’s very nice to walk around and explore the castle and it’s history, definitely a must do while in Valencia.
From Alicante city center it’s about 6-7 minutes drive, and then a short walk from the parking to arrive at the castle. Also up there you will find a nice restaurant with very nice views where you can enjoy a refreshing drink.
2. Alicante Old Town
Believe me, you don’t want to leave Alicante without taking a long walk on the streets of Alicante’s Old Town❤️ Just imagine….charming neighborhood filled with narrow streets, houses with their walls painted in joyful colors, small historical buildings and quaint squares, it’s a very picturesque area of Alicante.
P.S. : Don’t miss the Barrio de Santa Cruz! This is indeed a Hidden Gem of Alicante.
3. Explanada de España
Enjoy the sunny days by walking on this picturesque promenade filed with palm trees, cafe bars, small shops and restaurants. It is one of the Alicante’s emblems, don’t miss a walk here!
I will just say: thousands of palm trees fill the city🌴. Yep, that’s Elche and it’s palm trees gardens.
If you want to enjoy a walk in the nature among a lot of palm tress you should visit the Municipal Park of Elche. You can reach there by taking a bus from Alicante.
5. Mercat Central d’Alacant (Mercado Central de Alicante)
Well, as I mentioned also in my previous blog post about Valencia, I love this type of markets found in Spain. Alicante’s market it’s also worth visiting, you will find a lot of offers from fresh products, seafood, fruits and local specialties 😍
Accommodation
Where to stay in Alicante? 🗺
We stayed at Alicante Grand Sol hotel and booked a Standard Room with view. We received a room with balcony with a stunning view to the Alicante Marina. The bathroom thought, was very small and the room could have been better. But, overall it was a nice stay.
The location of the hotel is very good, located right near the Explanada de España.
