Table of Contents
ToggleCheck this slow pace Amsterdam itinerary! Hope it will help you to plan your trip! We had 4 days in Amsterdam and followed a slowed pace itinerary, but 3 days can also be enough for Amsterdam.
Amsterdam , the capital city of the Netherlands, is among the biggest cities in the world, renowned for its charming canals, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene and also famous for landmarks such as the Anne Frank House and its iconic bicycle culture.
Amsterdam it’s a very popular destination for tourists from all over the world. So let’s get started!

Day 1 : Keukenhof Gardens
If you want to see the endless fields and an enormous variety of tulips, you should add Keukenhof Gardens to your Amsterdam itinerary .
IMPORTANT! Before booking your plane tickets, check the opening schedule. In 2025 , Keukenhof Gardens are open from March 20 till May 11.
Useful info: Keukenhof Gardens are outside of Amsterdam at about 45 min by bus. You should buy tickets in advance, we booked from GetYourGuide this experience and was very convenient because we had also the transport included. For the Keukenhof entry and transport we paid 99 euro for 2 persons. You can also buy tickets directly from their website, the prices starting from 20 Euros.
At the entrance, you can take a map of the garden to get oriented easily, as the gardens are huge! We took almost the whole day to visit the Keukenhof Gardens at slow pace.
Inside Keukenhof you will also find food and drinks available to buy and also some souvenir shops.
The place is 100% worth it, you should not miss Keukenhof Gardens if you visit Amsterdam! We saw a big variety of tulips of all types and colors. There were many species of tulips I’ve never seen and knew existed. If you love tulips, this is heaven!
One more important thing is to not go very close to the closure date as there will be also some empty spaces and some tulips might also be close to their end of life. The best time to visit Keukenhof Gardens is somewhere mid or end of April!

Day 2: Old Town, Red Light district and Karaoke night
The second day we allocated fully to explore Amsterdam’s Old Town and Red Light District. In the late evening we had some fun at The End Karaoke.
Old Town
There should be no Amsterdam itinerary without exploring Old Town. You should take your time to walk around and also walk on each side of the canal from beginning till the end.
There is the main canal, which is the one we see in all the pictures which is clean and full of people exploring around and also a secondary canal, which if you want to explore, you will notice a slight change in therms of cleanliness. The second canal is next to the main one.
Here are a lot of coffee shops and different kind of stores. If you want to enjoy a coffee with a nice view over the main canal, you should try De Haven van Texel, also you should try the loaded fries here, they are delicious!

Red Light District
Red Light District is the place where you can see the “girls in the window”!
Basically, Red Light District is inside the city centre and it starts to get more animated as the sun sets down. You will see here the famous windows and the girls waiting for their clients. You can walk around, look at the girls, but it’s NOT ALLOWED to take pictures!
The End Karaoke Amsterdam
If you want to have some fun and also like karaoke nights, then The End Karaoke is the place for you! We had so much fun here. And this is how it works, you need to buy a drink in order to acquire some points and be able to sing a song.
The concept is great and the people there were so much fun!

Day 3: Nieuwmarkt, Boat tour on Amsterdams Canals and Amsterdamse Bos
Nieuwmarkt
From Monday to Friday, it’s a small market with vegetables, fruits, flowers, cheese. But on Saturdays there is an organic food market and on Sundays is the antique market.
You should definitely try the Dutch Sandwich and Stroopwafel, both were delicious!

Amsterdam canals boat cruise
We booked tickets for a boat tour and it was amazing! It was one of the most relaxing activities we did in Amsterdam!
We bought this tickets from GetYourGuide and paid 50Euro for both of us, but I’m telling you, it’s 100% worth it!
They walked us around the city on the canals, and we had the chance to see a lot of what the city has to offer! Among other places, we passed by Amsterdam Zoo and the newer part of the city.

Amsterdamse Bos
After the canal cruise, we headed to Amsterdamse Bos, which is a huge forest and actually is being translated as Amsterdam’s Forest.
This place has so many activities available, you can have a picnic, rent a boat, rent bicycle (open only untill 18:30) , get wet on a sunny day on the Play Island ( perfect for kids) and visit the Goat Farm.
We stayed for a picnic and enjoyed a gorgeous sunny spring day. Amsterdamse Bos it’s a very nice place to escape the busy and crowded atmosphere from Old Town.

Day 4: Giethoorn
Giethoorn is a small village, 2:30 H by train from Amsterdam and it’s called Netherland’s little Venice.
In my opinion, Giethoorn should NOT BE MISSED! The village is gorgeous, take your time to walk on the streets and also enjoy a boat tour for only 10Euro per person. We bought our tickets ahead of time from here .
Also, you will find there a lot of places to have lunch. We had lunch at Restaurant & Rondvaartbedrijf Hollands Venetië Giethoorn were we had a delicious mushroom soup and garlic bread!
