Travel guide for Luxembourg City

The Bock Casemates

The casemates are a network of underground tunnels and chambers that were originally built in 1644 as part of the city’s fortifications. We we’re very curios to see and explore them, as I’ve also read that besides the historical side, they also offer nice views over the city.

If we want to talk a little bit about history, here are some interesting things about the Bock Casemates:

  • the casemates played a crucial role in the city’s defense during various conflicts and wars over the centuries
  • they served as military defense structures, and also provided shelter and firing positions for the soldiers.

Tickets for visiting Bock Casemates can be bought online or on site ( there are usually no queue on site ) and they cost 15 / person.

City Center

Enjoy a walk in Luxembourg city center, you will love it. We usually take some time just to walk around and explore the center of the city we are in. We realized in this way we discover a lot of amazing buildings, bars, restaurant, beautiful streets and so on. During our travels, we like to also take a break from the “schedule” and just go with the flow.

I really liked the city center of Luxembourg, there you can find anything, from bars and restaurants to shopping alleys  and historical buildings, each of them with it’s own charm. Don’t miss the change to explore Luxembourg city center.

Rue Munster bridge

Well, as you probably have seen by now, Luxembourg has a lot of nice bridges and Rue Munster is one of them for sure. When we visited, it’s been such a sunny day, the temperature was perfect to stay and just enjoy the views around you.

As a side note, after you pass the bridge, you can walk through a lot of narrow streets, where you will also find bars and restaurants. And right near the bridge there is a bar, with a nice terrace pointing to the water.

Elevator of Pfaffenthal

This panoramic elevator will give you amazing views over Luxembourg. When I visited it, the sky was cloudless and the views were stunning.

The elevator itself has glass walls, I personally loved it. You either use it to go up to see the views or  go down after you’ve seen the city from above. As you can also come to this view point from the park nearby called Parc Fondation Pescatore.

Of course, keep in mind that it’s not suitable for those who are afraid of heights.
